Site Characterization, Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Studies

Investigating the type, concentration, and extent of contaminations

remedialAVENV can assist clientele in site characterization, to determine potential contamination. This includes investigating the type, concentration, and extent of the contamination, as well as studying the feasibility and cost of alternative remedial measures. AVENV staff can provide cost- effective approaches and detailed evaluations of various remedial options. This allows clients to choose the best approach for their business needs.   AVENV is qualified to provide remedial recommendations on asbestos containing materials (ACM), lead-based paint (LBP), mold, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) contamination, soil contamination and other pertinent areas related to industrial hygiene.

Site Characterization – This is a preliminary process to determine the potential contamination of a site. Typically, a site investigation/facility characterization includes evaluating media and structure to access the extent of contamination. During an investigation, AVENV collects samples from the site, submits them to a laboratory for analyses, and interprets the laboratory data  in order to make recommendations for exposure monitoring, remediation and clean-up.

Remedial Investigations – Should contaminants be discovered on-site, AVENV consults will perform a remedial investigation to determine the nature, extent, and environmental/health impacts of the contamination. This typically involves more detailed and comprehensive examination of the site, further characterization of contaminants, and documentation of the investigation.

Feasibility Study – Using information developed in the remedial investigation, AVENV scientists can draft a feasibility study.  This study involves the identification and evaluation of alternative remedial technologies, as well as detailed cost analyses regarding remedial alternatives. Feasibility studies also involve the development of a preliminary remedial design. AVENV can also perform on-site testing, as needed, to assist in the preliminary design and cost estimation of these remedial approaches.

Remediation – AVENV performs the technical oversight and documentation for on-site remedial projects.  Staff   monitor the use of heavy equipment and provide waste management assistance, as needed. AVENV also conducts periodic sampling of contaminants, in order to monitor the remediation process and offer further assistance to clientele.
